Getting to White Cliffs by Road

Travelling from Broken Hill you have two ways of getting to White Cliffs.

Option 1: 290 km

Approximately 3 hours on sealed roads. From Broken Hill travel 198km east along the Barrier Highway. Turn left onto the Opal Miners Way and drive 92km north to White Cliffs.

Option 2: 293 km

A more scenic route will give you the option of visiting the Mutawintji National Park. Head north on the Silver City Highway approximately 50 km, then turn onto the unsealed Mutawintji Road.

A small detour will take you in to the National Park. Continue on the Mutawinji Road then turn right onto the Whipstick Road and travel 63km to White Cliffs.

From Tilpa, you will head west across to White Cliffs via a gravel surface road partly following the Darling River Run and passing through the Paroo Darling National Park.

Driving from Menindee to White Cliffs gives you the best of both worlds! 158 km of unsealed road on the western side of the Darling River to Wilcannia and continue the 92 km to White Cliffs along the sealed Opal Miners Way.

You will definitely get the chance to experience a dusty outback road! Drive south along the unsealed Wanaaring to Wilcannia Road about 170km then turn right onto Mandalay Road. The next 34 km west will take you through the beautiful Paroo Dariling National Park in to White Cliffs.

From Tibooburra you have the option of travelling south, past Milparinka, 115km before turning left onto unsealed Henry Roberts Road. Follow this for another 135 km, a great outback dirt road experience.

The other option travelling from Tibooburra is by driving east along the Tibooburra-Wanaaring road approximately 150 km and turning down the Reola Road 143 km until you reach White Cliffs.
